Hero of the Day

With all due respect to Francisco Liriano, who was slightly shakier than last start although you would never know it from the box score, I believe the Hero for today was our very own Cuddy. Homering and tripling will do the trick. Nicely done, sir. Nicely done.

Honorable mention to Red Dog, for taking a bat off the ribcage and a foul ball right off the cheekbone. When Red actually gets up and walks around a bit, you know it hurts. You also know he will never leave the game. Bravo, Red Dog. Now go get into coaching before you get killed.

A few of my favorite things

This score: Twins 6, Indians Zero

Seeing Frankie go eight complete, and shutout innings, no less! How many times did he throw eight complete last year? Don’t tell me, I probably don’t want to know.

Seeing Red Dog again. It is very weird to see him in an Indians uniform, but it’s nice to see him anyway. And he even survived the game, barely.

Michael Cuddyer! A home run that I can’t believe was actually a home run, given that the pitch was about shoulder-level and everything else hit in the air today seemed to be knocked down by the air conditioning. And then he hits a triple! Cuddy is known for many things: his arm, his dimples, his magic tricks. He’s not exactly known for his wheels. He is faster than Justin Morneau, but then so are many things: my cat, my one-year-old niece, a teacup Chihuahua, my cat when she’s asleep, an apple if you roll it fairly briskly, most kinds of mold, and worms. (Not, however, Mike Redmond.)

Looking at the out-of-town scores and seeing the White Sox losing by TWELVE to NOTHING. Hahaha! Twelve-zip! Granted, it is against Tampa Bay, and Tampa Bay is actually very good at baseball so far this year. But the much-feared Sox starting rotation has so far fallen so far short of expectations that expectations are looking around with a telescope, all like, “Where are they? Have they gone yet? I don’t see anything!” I imagine Sox fans are kind of despondent at the moment, but you KNOW those pitchers at least will come around eventually. I’m not so sure about that offense. I think Ozzie is still managing for some imaginary team and not for the team he actually has. I could be wrong; I hope I’m not. Regardless, I am very pleased to see a little breathing room open up between us and the rest of the division.

Looking at the standings, looking for teams with 11 wins, and finding: ONE. One only. Who would that be? Why, that would be the Twins, thankyouverymuch. (Yes, I know the Rays will win their 11th too. But the Twins got theirs first!)

FIVE SERIES WINS IN A ROW.
